Diploma in Aromatic Therapy

Body in Balance Training Diploma in Aromatic Therapy

This diploma course is currently in development.

A unique, joint, venture between Mariette Lobo and Jennifer Rhind, this is an adjunctive therapy course aimed at:

  • complementary therapy professionals who already possess a recognised therapy qualification in some form of bodywork (for example, Indian Head Massage, Hand and Foot Reflexology, Body Massage, Remedial Massage)
  • health care professionals (for example, sports therapists, physiotherapists, podiatrists, nurses).

It is focussed on using Essential Oils and Aromatic Plant Extracts to enhance and augment existing professional skills.

The course will provide in-depth study which will cover a comprehensive range of essential oils and absolutes – their physical, emotional and cognitive therapeutic benefits as well as their applications in the complementary care setting.

Jennifer Peace Rhind and Mariette Lobo.

Jennifer Peace Rhind is a Chartered Biologist with a Ph.D. from the University of Strathclyde.

Her long-standing interest in Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM) has led to qualifications in massage, aromatherapy and reflexology, and for thirteen years she worked as a therapist and partner in a multidisciplinary complementary healthcare clinic.

During this time she became involved in CAM education in the private sector and co-founded the first professionally accredited CAM school in Scotland.

She was a lecturer on the B.A.(Hons) Complementary Healthcare programme at Edinburgh Napier University for fourteen years, and is now a consultant in essential oil and scent education.

Mariette Lobo has followed a successful career as a complementary therapies lecturer in further education by becoming a private training provider and now runs Body in Balance Training, a centre of excellence for fully insured, professional, practitioner courses for complementary therapists.

Professional bodies

Mariette Lobo is on the Complementary & Natural Healthcare Council Accredited Register

The Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) is the UK voluntary regulator for complementary therapists.

CNHC was set up with government support to protect the public by providing a UK voluntary register of complementary therapists.

CNHC's register has been approved as an Accredited Voluntary Register by the Professional Standards Authority for Health and Social Care.

Mariette Lobo is registered with the British Reflexology Association

The Bayly School of Reflexology is the official teaching body of The British Reflexology Association and was the first Reflexology training school to be established in Great Britain.

The Bayly Method of treatment is unique to The Bayly School in that the thumb is not flexed and extended in a caterpillar-like movement so the method is less stressful on the thumb (and finger) joints and the less rapid movement is considered to be more relaxing to the patient.
