Ear Candling, also referred to as ear-coning or thermo-auricular therapy is a therapeutic, relaxation technique which requires the use of ear candles. Its exact origins are unknown but there is evidence indicating its use in many different cultures around the world.
Ear candles are made of cotton or linen that’s wound into a cone shape, soaked in wax, and then allowed to harden. This hollow candle is gently inserted into the external ear canal and lit at the opposite end.
There are many myths surrounding Ear Candling – here are two facts:
- Any burning object near your body involves danger and so ear candles must be used with due care and attention – hence their use by a trained practitioner
- Ear candles are not designed to remove anything from your body, not even ear wax.
Receiving treatment from an ear-candling practitioner is a matter of personal choice and many people find it to be a soothing, relaxing therapy that may help to relieve tension, stress, and anxiety.
There is very little documented evidence of the history of Ear Candling. It was traditionally used by Shaman healers and is said to have been brought to contemporary Europe by the Hopi Indians of North America. It is widely thought that the candles were used as a spiritual cleansing treatment before entering a trance state or meditation.Book A Treatment
